Fall 2011


The fall 2011 issue of UCLA Engineer includes a four-page feature of Engineering VI, a much-needed addition to the engineering complex that will provide numerous benefits to UCLA students, faculty, as well as Southern California’s business and scientific communities; a feature on civil and environmental engineering professor Shaily Mahedra’s research on cleaning up emerging environmental threats; and a profile of entrepreneur and angel investor Venky Harinarayan MS ’90, who is on the verge of altering Walmart’s global e-commerce division. This issue also includes stories on a senior design/build class, a snow-packed field trip into the Sierra Nevada for a hydrology class, and more. Spring 2011

 

The spring 2011 issue of UCLA Engineer includes a double-page spread on faculty members who are researching clean and renewable energy; energy efficiency, and energy storage; a feature on assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering Richard Wirz’s research on wind energy technologies; a profile of alumnus Ben Horowitz MS '90, partner in a leading Silicon Valley venture capital firm; a Q&A interview with mechanical engineering doctoral student Julia K. Nichols MS '09, a world class rower; and a preview of the state-of-the-art WIN-GEM building and Creativity Center, both of which will add critically needed teaching and research space to the school. And as always, the new spring issue includes news and highlights on students, alumni, faculty and some special UCLA Engineering events.


Fall 2010

The commemorative Fall 2010 issue of UCLA Engineer celebrates the school’s 65th anniversary. It includes reflections on the school from long-time faculty and staff; photos highlighting its accomplishments over the years; and an essay on the school’s early days from Paul Castenholz ’49, MS ’58. This edition's features include Jin Hyung Lee’s neuroimaging research; Eric Hoek’s work cleaning up the Gulf; and a profile on energy efficiency leader Balu Balakrishnan MS ’76. Spring 2010
